I was deeply moved and encouraged by Geng’s testimony and I hope you are too. It is wonderful to see God use Derek’s teaching through radio programmes, books and audio-visuals to draw believers closer to Him and enable them to experience His rich blessings, healing, joy and freedom.

Turning Converts into Disciples through DPM

   You see, a constant challenge we face in China is responding quickly and effectively to requests for resources from churches that are growing very fast but still desperately need foundational study materials.

   A Christian leader once described the Chinese church as “a large lake that is only 3 inches deep.” Every year hundreds of thousands of Chinese people come to the Lord but they have little understanding of the Bible, no books or Bible study notes, and often attend house churches where teaching materials are in short supply. These new believers need to be grounded in God’s Word. They need life-transforming teaching to help them understand who God is, what Jesus has done for them, and why He is the Way, the Truth and the Life.

   During the last 20 years, thanks to the generosity of friends and supporters like you, we have printed and distributed over six million copies of Derek’s books across China. But they are just a drop in the ocean in a country where there are over 75 million Christian believers!

   For example, just a few months ago I arrived in a city in north China to do some training for church leaders. Our small team travelled through busy streets and stopped near a smelly rubbish dump. Behind the dump was the entrance to a meeting place where 60 Christian leaders were waiting for us.

   During our time together some of these leaders told us how their congregations are being continually decimated by conversions of new Christians to a dangerous heretical sect, called Lightening from the East. Hundreds of new Christians who do not understand the Gospel leave the church because they think Lightening from the East is a better way. This might seem foolishness to us but it is a real, pressing issue for them. And these church leaders asked for our help with materials to train believers in the basic truths of God’s Word.

   Derek’s books are like water to parched throats for many Chinese leaders and their congregations. His clear, easy to understand teachings help set a foundation of Bible knowledge on which both the leaders and their congregations are able to build strong lives of Christian witness and service.

   That is why we would like to provide these church leaders and many others with hundreds of packs of Self-Study Bible Course, the Foundation Series and Faith to Live By. These three books have proved to be very helpful for church leaders in teaching new converts and other believers alike.
