The Holy Spirit is Lord, just as God the Father is Lord and Jesus Christ is Lord. One of the areas in which we have to yield to His Lordship and trust him in faith is in the area of our prayer life.

In order to be effective in prayer, you have to understand the Holy Spirit and let Him guide you and empower you in your prayers. The Bible shows us different kinds of prayers that the Holy Spirit can give. The first is prayer based directly on God’s Word. You take a promise of God and turn it back to God and say, “God, do what you’ve promised to do.”

Today, we’ll look at another kind of prayer that is led by the Holy Spirit. This prayer is directly inspired by the Spirit. In Psalm 81:10 the Lord says to His people:

I am the Lord your God, Who brought you out of the land of Egypt; Open your mouth wide, and I will fill it.

Sometimes you don’t know what you’re going to pray. I don’t know if you’ve ever been in that situation, you just open your mouth and let the Lord give you the prayer. Let Him pray it through you. That’s one of the ways sometimes that you can discover God’s will. When you begin to pray something that you never thought of praying, maybe about yourself or a certain situation, that’s the prayer the Holy Spirit has given you, that’s the revelation of God’s will.

Reflect:

In order to let God pray through you, you need to hand over control to the Holy Spirit. Are you willing to trust Him?

Prayer:

Father in Heaven, what a mystery it is to pray to You– and to have You pray through me. Thank you for giving me the words when I don’t know what to pray. You know all things. Your wisdom surpasses my understanding of situations. I praise you, in Jesus’ name. Amen.
