Today's Foundations Devotional: Part Four Introduction: Purposes of Pentecost

Memory verse:

Pursue love, and desire spiritual gifts, but especially that you may

prophesy. (1 Corinthians 14:1)

In Acts 1:8 Jesus promises His disciples they ‘you shall receive power when the Holy Spirit has come upon you’. Power for what? What is God's purpose for baptizing His children with the Holy Spirit?

In this new part of your daily study, Derek Prince answers this and other questions about the baptism in the Holy Spirit. This baptism is essential if you want to live a strong Christian life.

Derek Prince distinguishes seven consequences of the outpouring of the Holy Spirit in the life of every believer.

Not only you, but your environment also will be radically changed when God's power becomes visible in your life through the baptism in the Holy Spirit ...

1. Dynamic power to witness

2. Direct contact with the resurrected Christ

3. Access to God’s supernatural power

4. Powerful, continuous prayer

5. A new and deeper understanding of the Bible

6. Daily direction and guidance

7. God’s own love poured out in your heart

In the introduction to all four of the gospels (Matthew, Mark, Luke and John) it is stated that Jesus will baptise with the Holy Spirit. Did you realise that?

Not only was Jesus to die in our place, but right in the beginning of His ministry it was announced that He would be the baptiser in the Spirit.

This is very important to note – firstly because much of the church seems to have overlooked it, but also because right from the beginning, God revealed how He will empower us to walk as Jesus walked.
