How to download your eBook

The Amazon Kindle is a great e-book reader, but they try to limit users to Amazon’s e-books only. However, there is a way for you to read e-books in the EPUB, Mobi, and PDF formats to your Kindle. Did you download one our eBook, but are you struggling to install it on your mobile device?

The following videos are designed to help you get the eBooks working on your smartphone.

If you need any more guidance, please follow these instructions:

Step 1: Find Your Kindle Email

Log in to your Amazon account, and get your Kindle's email address:

  • On your PC, browse to amazon.com/myk or go to Account > Your devices and content > Manage devices. Make sure the Devices tab up top is selected. Then, find the relevant Kindle device and click it. In the drop-down window, click [your name's] Kindle.
  • The next page will show you a Device Summary that lists your @kindle.com email address. (If this is still set to a default address, change it by clicking Edit and add your own name.)
  • Go to the Preferences tab (at the top), and scroll down to Personal Document Settings.
  • Click the down arrow (on the right) and scroll to Approved Personal Document E-mail List. The email attached to your Amazon account should be listed here. If that's the email address you'll be using to send e-books to your Kindle, you're all set. To use a different email, click Add a new approved e-mail address and enter the address you want to use.

Step 2: Determine the format of your E-book

Now you know your Kindle email, determine the format of your e-book and then email it to your Kindle.

Mobi Format

  • Books in the Mobi format are already readable by the Kindle. Connect your Kindle device to your PC with a USB cable, and simply drag and drop the file onto it.
  • Another way is to create a new email, attach the file, and send it to your Kindle's email address. The subject line isn’t relevant, but make sure there is nothing in the body of the email. After sending, it should appear on your Kindle shortly.

EPUB Format

EPUB is a common ebook format around the web, but the Kindle can't read it so you first need to convert epub files to Mobi files for the Kindle to read. An easy way to convert your epub file to Mobi is a free piece of software called Calibre

  • When you set up the software, you will be asked for your model of ebook reader, and a pop-up suggests sending the books by email. Fill in the email address for your Kindle and the authorized email address with which you've set to send documents to your Kindle.
  • Once you set up Calibre, click on Add Books and select any e-book files you've downloaded to appear in the Calibre library. Now select a book in your Calibre library and choose Convert Books from the top bar.
  • In the upper right-hand corner, make sure to set the Output Format to Mobi.
  • Click OK, and wait until the Jobs number at the lower-right of the main screen goes from 1 down to 0.
  • Now select the title again and click Save to Disk. Pick the folder you want to save your file. This will create a subfolder with the name of the author. Within that folder, search for the Mobi file. You can email this file to your Kindle, or drag and drop it using a USB cable.

PDF Format

Amazon can automatically convert PDFs into the Kindle format, but they offer two ways of formatting your file.

  • Option 1: If you want your Kindle to display every page in the PDF as if it were a graphic, just email the .pdf file to your Kindle's address without a subject line. You could also drag and drop the file onto your Kindle if you attach the device to your PC with a USB cable. This option doesn’t allow you to change the font while reading your e-book, so you might prefer the next option.
  • Option 2:Attach the PDF file to an email, and make the subject line "Convert" (nothing more, only that word). Send it to your Kindle email address and your PDF will be converted into a Mobi file, where you can control the font size and formatting.
